Recently we took a trip to Roaring River, North Carolina to tour the Louisiana Pacific Building

Products plant. This past year Inside-Out Construction installed over 30 miles of LP engineered siding, to the exteriors of many Condo’s & Townhomes in the Chicago and Milwaukee suburbs. This tour included the chance to see how LP Building Products manufactures their engineered wood siding and panels using a “wet process” and how they impress the siding and panels to look exactly like pine or cedar wood.
LP-Building-Products PHOTO The tour was led by Regional Quality and Technical Manager, David Stackhouse and Plant Manager, Jimmy Mason. These men were able to walk us through the process of how each piece of wood is chemically treated with zinc borate in an environmentally safe way.  We were also able to observe how they test and monitor the product so that its quality is never compromised.

Every morning their employees have a “Tool Box Meeting” to keep SAFETY the #1 priority throughout the day. Because of processes like this, they have had over 4 million man hours without a “loss-time injury”.  As far as their environmental awareness goes, LP uses river water to assist in their manufacturing process; they discharge roughly 1.5 million gallons of clean water back into the river each day. They also have an on-site computer, battery, and LED lighting recycle & safe disposal area for the community and their employees. When it was all said and done, our construction division left with more knowledge of what goes into the process of the LP Siding and Paneling product line. This, In turn, has made us more educated to answer questions for our customers.

As our current weather conditions are showing us, it doesn’t look like it is going to change anytime soon for the Midwest. Everyone knows that the proper attire means everything when battling the weather and the same goes for your home. LP offers a wide range of building products that will not only last up to 50 years, with the proper maintenance, but will keep you from having to make wood replacement repairs every spring and summer. If you, your community association, or your property manager would like more information about engineered wood or for your community or you would like more information about our tour please don’t hesitate to contact us.
